Alle actie gebeurde in vijf dolle minuten. 73': D'Ambrosio brengt Inter op voorsprong. 76': Gabbiadini hangt de bordjes weer gelijk. 78': niemand minder dan Nainggolan zet zijn rechter tegen een afvallende bal en ziet de winning goal binnenrollen. Een luide schreeuw van verlossing volgt. 

De voorbije maanden werd Il Ninja vooral achtervolgd door extrasportieve problemen, maar dat was even allemaal vergeten bij zijn eerste competitiedoelpunt sinds begin november. Dankzij de zege blijft Inter bovendien comfortabel op de derde plaats. Bij Sampdoria speelde Dennis Praet negentig minuten.
