Real Madrid kon zich geen puntenverlies veroorloven na de zege van Barcelona tegen Espanyol. Bovendien wilden de Madrilenen zich herpakken na de vorige blamage op verplaatsing bij Eibar (3-0). 'De Koninklijke' slaagde in hun missie met dank aan Gareth Bale en ... Thibaut Courtois.

Al na acht minuten stond de eindstand op het bord. Odriozola gaf voor doel, Bale nam de bal prinsheerlijk in één keer op zijn slof. Daarna was vooral de thuisploeg de meest gevaarlijke ploeg. Vooral Melero lukte het onmogelijke door een niet te missen kans de das om te doen.

Maar ook onze landgenoot Courtois wist zich regelmatig te onderscheiden, zodat de drie punten alsnog mee naar Bernabeu gaan. Real Madrid wipt zo naar de vierde plaats in het klassement en komt op vijf punten van de aartsrivaal uit Barcelona.
